Supervisory Panel Changes
During your candidature, you may need to make changes to your supervisory panel. If this happens, your supervisory panel must continue to meet the University’s minimum requirements, which are in place to ensure you receive appropriate supervision and support throughout your candidature:
- Your panel must have a primary and at least one secondary supervisor (both ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú academics)
- Your panel may include additional secondary supervisors to support your research, who may be from ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú staff or an external organisation
- Advisors can be included where specialist expertise is required
- Members of the panel (other than advisors) need to hold a doctoral degree or have recognised equivalent professional experience
- You will also have an agreed contingency panel in case a panel member needs to step down for any reason.
Supervision by a research end-user
A research end-user supervisor is a specialist or professional from outside of ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú and academia who helps supervise your research and will directly use or benefit from the outcomes and outputs of your research.
A research end-user supervisor must:
- be from an organisation that meets the definition of a research end-user
- be actively involved in your research project
- be endorsed by your supervisor and Faculty.
Research end-user supervisors may be involved in projects such as:
- A National Industry PhD Program award
- An industry fully-funded or co-funded research project (e.g. 50/50 scholarship)
- A research industry internship
If you are being supervised by a research end-user, follow the steps below to add them to your supervisory panel.
How to change your supervisory panel
If you need to add, remove or replace a supervisor, start by discussing the proposed change with your current supervisor(s) and Faculty HDR Officer.
When identifying a new supervisor, make sure they:
- Have expertise relevant to your research area
- Are available to provide supervision.
Before submitting a request, work with your supervisor(s) and Faculty HDR Officer to ensure:
- Your panel meets the University’s minimum requirements
- Any new supervisor has agreed to join your panel.
To change your supervisory panel, complete the Change to Supervisory Panel form. The form is completed through an Adobe workflow and will automatically be routed to the required approvers. Once all approvals have been provided, the form will be sent to the Graduate Research School for processing.
