How recovery and match readiness can be improved in women's sport: Josh Waugh

There are major gaps in research on female athletes – meet the PhD student looking to tackle that.

As a recipient of one of ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú’s 50:50 Women In Sport scholarships, Josh Waugh has used the opportunity to improve recovery and outcomes for players at Canberra United.

The scholarship – which allows him to work at the club through an embedded learning approach – sees him track player activity via GPS and drone to ensure they’re match-fit and to reduce injuries.

There are different variables to consider when researching female versus male athletes. For example, female professional athletes are more likely to balance a part time job or household responsibilities, which can impact recovery and match readiness.
